Last week, Khalid Hamid, the head of the English department, was shot dead by his student, who accused him of promoting non-Islamic activities (a mixed reception) at Government Sadiq Egarton College in Bahawalpur. After the shocking incident, opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif said that the fatal consequences of the difference of opinion should be taken up to a moment of national reflection.
But if you do not know that you do not know the reason then the argument is a form of internal debate. This is a controversial exercise involving accepting and adjusting unsatisfactory ideas. And this practice of recognizing, respecting and possibly reconciling different opinions is something that Pakistan has forgotten.
They are no longer taught to think seriously, they are no longer allowed to speak freely, and their political representatives do not get involved in long arguments, so how can we expect better? Now we live in a time that is different from the concept and value of meaningful dialogue, even a flicker of disagreement or discontent creates such deep distraction that it incites allegations of treason or blasphemy, All right often justified death.
